Montepulciano isn’t a well-known grape. Montepulciano is a ‘soft’ and ‘easy-drinking’ wine, and we craft it for enjoyment at a young age.

It has medium berries and thick skin, but it’s not especially tannic. Budbreak and maturity are late, and due to its late maturity, it thrives in Valley Center, becoming more drought- and heat-tolerant; it has thus become an attractive option in this era of climate change. 

Montepulciano is generous in terms of fruit and flavor, alcohol, and richness, and displays friendly tannins.

Why Syrah? Syrah is a grape variety that thrives in hot, sunny regions with a long growing season, allowing it to achieve full ripeness. Syrah grows well in Valley Center, where the climate is characterized by hot summers and mild winters, making it an ideal location for cultivation. Our well-drained sandy loam soils help moderate water intake, and the region's limited rainfall, combined with irrigation, provides the correct hydration.

Syrah is so good because of its complex flavor profile. It combines robust fruit flavors with intense spice and smoky notes, creating a unique and delicious wine. It's also very versatile and pairs well with a variety of foods.
